The maypole, schoolhouse and graveyard scenes were filmed around Anwoth Old Kirk. From the A75 drive a mile or so through Anwoth (blink and you'll miss it) and the Old Kirk can be found at the far end of the village.

The girl with baby seen behind Edward Woodward in the picture was played by a young Barbara Rafferty perhaps best known as Ella Cotter in Rab C. Nesbitt and Agnes Meldrum in Hamish Macbeth (both BBC Scotland)

The apple blossom seen by the scholhouse in the movie was fake. In the 1999 BBC Scotland documentary about The Wicker Man Edward Woodward recalls how during filming of the horse and trap scene they had so few blossom 'trees' that they were moved from behind the filming point to in front of it during filming.
