Eilean Donan Castle has been used as a filming location for many films.
From Fort William go north on the A82 and then take the A87 to Kyle of Lochalsh at Invergarry. Continue on this road to Dornie and the castle and it's large car park and visitor center is on the left. Until quite recently there was no charge to cross the causeway
and wander around the outside of the castle although you had to pay to enter the castle itself. Unfortunately following the building of the new visitor center you now have to pay the entrance fee for the castle to cross the causeway although there is no charge when the castle itself is shut in the evening.
Filming locations around the castle vary from the immediate vacinity of the castle adjacent to the car park [1], the view from the bridge over Loch Long seen in Highlander [2], from the hill overlooking the castle seen in Highlander [3], a view down Loch Duich seen briefly in Loch Ness [4], and near Carr Brae seen in Oliver's Travels [5]. The single track road from Dornie to the viewpoint at Carr Brae has car parks opposite and appeared frequently in Hamish Macbeth
