From the ferry terminal at Craignure drive east on the A849 for about five miles from where the castle is signposted. The castle stands imposingly on the coast and is visible from the Oban to Mull ferry. It dates to the 13th century with further additions in the 14th century. |
At this time the castle was held by the Macleans who held it until the loss of their estates in the 1670's. Sir Fitzroy MacLean purchased the castle in 1911 and started restoration of the building. |
The castle is open to the public - admission price £3.50. There is no charge to walk around the grounds and there is a tearoom next to the castle. |
