From Edinburgh take the A7 and then the A68 to Dalkeith passing Craigmillar Castle on the way. Continue down the A68 and when entering Pathhead you should take the first road on the right which is signposted to Crichton Castle. Continue to follow the signposts to the castle and after a few miles you will arrive at a free car park. The castle is then a short walk away.

The castle and the landscape in the background were altered in the movie. The filming position was on the small hill on the left just before you reach the castle.

The castle is in the care of Historic Scotland and is open all year round but is closed on Thursday afternoons and all day Friday during in the winter months. Opening times are listed on the Historic Scotland site below.
