Loch Achaidh na h-Inich

This is the Loch beside which Magda and Sidney (the radio detector folk) stay in their caravan in "Radio Lochdubh". It features as 'Loch McMartin' where Hamish Macbeth is seen fishing at the beginning of "The trouble with Rory" and also appears at the end of "The Big Freeze".

Directions

You can either drive or, if feeling more energetic, walk to this pleasant loch.

From the car park in Plockton turn left and head back up the road out of the village and continue on this road until you reach the first road on the left.

Follow this road past Creag nan Garadh until you reach the T junction. Take the right turning (the left goes to Duncraig Castle), Follow this road going past Loch Lundie until there is a road on the left signposted to Achnandarach and Achnahinich. This junction appears in "The Big Freeze" as the point where TV John turns into a dead end road while being pursued by the police which leads to Inspector Bruce asking "What's wrong with the man. Can't he read?"

Follow this road for a mile or so and you will pass over a cattle grid to the side of Loch Achaidh na h-Inich - the locations used in the episodes are a couple of hundred yards further on and are to the top of the Loch past a signpost from the Water Board advising that this Loch is used for drinking water supplies. The location seen at the end of "The Big Freeze" is at the top of the loch just before the road goes past the large gate into the woods.
