From Stranraer take the A75 east for a couple of miles. Then the minor road on the left to New Luce and Castle Kennedy. The castle grounds are open to the public and comprise over 75 acres of landscaped terraces situated between the Black Loch and the White Loch. These terraces are seen to good effect in the movie with the scenes involving the stone circle and the may day procession. |

Lochinch castle stands at one end of the gardens with the ruins of Castle Kennedy, burnt down in 1716, at the other. The castle ruins are visible behind Edward Woodward in one scene. Most of the interior shots of Lord Summerisle's castle were filmed in Lochinch Castle. It is not open to the public. |

The garden is reknowned for it's avenues of trees and is worth visiting early in the year to see it's many rhododendrons and azaleas. The gardens are open from 1st April to the end September seven days a week, 10:00am to 5:00pm. Admission charge in 1999 was £2 for adults with reduced rates for children and O.A.P.'s |
