Tantallon Castle in East Lothian is the home of The Great Wizard Michael Scot (Peter Mullan) in the BBC series Shoebox Zoo. The castle is built on a headland facing Bass Rock and dates from the 14th Century.

The wizard Michael Scot is based on the real Michael Scot, an ancestor of the famous author Sir Walter Scott who dubbed him the Wizard of the North. Michael Scot was an alchemist and scholar who lived in the Scottish Borders from around 1175 to 1230.
