The exterior of the church seen in Local Hero was a mockup covering a house at the end of Camusdarach Beach in Morar. The church it was based on was the Our Lady of the Braes Roman Catholic church near Lochailort. The interior scenes though were filmed at the church itself.

The church occupies a prominent position alongside the main (only) road to Morar and there is a large roadside car park on the other side of the road.
