Whisky Galore (1949)
|
Whisky Galore was based upon a true incident, the foundering of the SS Politician off the Isle Of Eriskay in 1941 with 50,000 cases of Scotch Whisky aboard. The Scottish islanders of Todday by-pass war time rationing and delight in smuggling cases of their favourite tipple from the wrecked ship. Whisky Galore was filmed on the island of Barra in the Outer Hebrides.
This movie is also available on DVD in a four pack of Ealing Studios films which includes The Maggie.
A new remastered/restored edition of the movie will be released on Blu-ray in the UK on 8th August 2011
