A couple of scenes from Dear Frankie were filmed in Port Glasgow, 8 miles to the east of Greenock and 15 miles to the west of Glasgow. Thanks to Melanie Greenberg for identifying these locations and for the use of her photographs taken on a tour of Dear Frankie filming locations as part of the Gerard Butler convention held in January 2006 in Glasgow.

The scene where Frankie (Jack McElhone) and the Stranger (Gerard Butler) skim stones on a beach next to a jetty/pier was filmed approximately 250 meters to the east of historic Newark Castle [1] which dates back to the 15th century. There is car parking close to the Castle.
Also filmed at this location were the closing scenes of Dear Frankie with Frankie and Lizzie looking out to sea at the end of the large jetty mentioned above.

The scene where Frankie and the Stranger run along a muddy beach was filmed on the mudflats near Kelburn Park and Parklea [2]. There is a Car Park at Parklea accessed via a turnoff from the large roundabout on the A8. From Glasgow third exit on the right, from Newark Castle and Greenock first exit on the left.
