History | |||||||||||||||
Plockton is a planned village which was started by the Earl of Seaforth in 1794. It was bought by Sir Hugh Innes in 1798 when it was described 'as a village fast improving in it's value and the number of its inhabitants and several good houses and other building.' A plan of the village in 1801 shows allowances for another street of houses running behind Harbour and Bank Street which were never built. By 1841 the population of the village had reached 537 people. Much of the area around the village of Plockton is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. |
